In 2021 Cornelius undertook a massive renovation project in his private residence which is a 5 bedroom gated property with an approximate area of 2626 sq ft (243.9 m²). The full renovations included
- Remove walls between kitchen and dining room to create a very large open plan space.
- Installation of a brand new kitchen and bathrooms
- Structural alterations to remove walls, chimney breast and installation of steel beams.
- Demolition and construction of a 2 storey extension with planning permission.
- Rendering and replastering all internal walls of the property
- Electrical rewiring and plumbing.
- Landscaping - paving, driveway and garden.
Renovating an old house comes with its challenges, lots of unplanned and unexpected issues that pushed further the completion time. Cornelius was able to mitigate these risk because funds had been put aside in case of emergencies and unexpected issues.
The project was executed using a phased approach where the tasks were broken down into phases. Only one phase was worked on at a time and payments were only made to the contractors after the completion of each phase. This approach management ensured that the work was done to taste and nothing was left hanging.
